Camino Krk: The Full 150km Island Pilgrimage

Experience the ultimate 7-day hiking adventure across Krk Island. Discover ancient trails, hidden beaches, historic towns, and serene landscapes on the Camino Krk route.

The Camino Krk is a spectacular 150-kilometer circular hiking route that traces the diverse landscapes and deep historical roots of Krk Island. Inspired by the famous Camino de Santiago, this Croatian variant forms part of the broader network of European pilgrimage routes leading to Santiago de Compostela.

Whether you are seeking a spiritual journey, a physical challenge, or simply a deep immersion into Mediterranean nature, the Camino Krk offers an unforgettable 7-day adventure.

What to Expect

The route takes hikers through an incredible variety of terrain: from the bare, moon-like plateaus of the south and dense oak forests of the interior, to olive groves, hidden rocky coves, and charming historic towns. Along the way, you will discover the island’s rich sacral heritage, passing centuries-old churches, abandoned ruins, and ancient dry-stone walls.

The trail is well-marked with the traditional Camino scallop shell (often painted yellow and blue) and local signage, making it accessible for anyone with a good level of fitness and a sense of adventure.

The 7 Stages of Camino Krk

The 150km journey is typically divided into seven daily stages, designed to allow time for rest and exploration. You can view the detailed trail guide, map, and GPX download for each stage below:

  1. Day 1: Krk – Brzac (23 km) Starting in the historic town of Krk, this stage leads through olive groves and peaceful villages, ending in the quiet settlement of Brzac.

  2. Day 2: Brzac – Malinska (22.9 km) A scenic coastal and inland route passing through the Šotovento area, historic Glagolitic sites, and finishing in the vibrant town of Malinska.

  3. Day 3: Malinska – Omišalj (19 km) Follow the beautiful coastline from Malinska to Njivice, before heading up to the cliff-top town of Omišalj.

  4. Day 4: Omišalj – Čižići (21 km) A journey through the northern part of the island, featuring the impressive Biserujka Cave and the healing muds of Soline Bay.

  5. Day 5: Čižići – Vrbnik (21.6 km) Explore the rugged eastern coast, hike through the magical Dobrinj area, and arrive at the stunning cliffside wine town of Vrbnik.

  6. Day 6: Vrbnik – Baška (23.3 km) The most demanding but rewarding stage, crossing the “Moon Plateau” and descending into the dramatic Baška valley.

  7. Day 7: Baška – Kornić (21.4 km) The final stretch winds through southern coastal trails, passing historic chapels, and ends triumphantly in Kornić at the Church of St. James.

Practical Tips

  • Best time to hike: Spring (April–June) and Autumn (September–November) offer the best hiking weather. Summer can be extremely hot with little shade on some stages.
  • Passports and Stamps: Pick up a Pilgrim Passport (Credencial) in Krk town. You can collect stamps along the route and receive your official “Compostela” certificate upon completion.
  • Preparation: Bring sturdy hiking shoes, plenty of water, and sun protection. While the trail crosses many towns, some stretches are remote.
